August 23, 2020 | by | The Sun |

“NEW York City Mayor Bill De Blasio was urged to step down during a protest in Manhattan amid city’s homeless crisis and gun violence spike.

Approximately 300 protesters assembled in front of City Hall Park on Saturday urging De Blasio to resign, according to the New York Post.

Signs reading, “Step Down de Blasio” and “Defund de Blasio” were held up by demonstrators.

Brooklynite Annette Gerage, 67, brought a sight to the protest reading: “Save our City — Impeach De Blasio.”

Gerage told The Post how she feels the mayor “is letting this city go straight to hell. Back to the 60s, 70s, 80s, just as bad, if not worse.

She added: “The city we have loved is gone. What do you expect from a Dinkins protege? He is a do-nothing mayor.”

Radio celeb Joe Piscopo, SBA President Ed Mullins, and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa were guest speakers at the event.

Prior to the rally, Scott LoBaido – the artist who organized the demonstration – created a GoFundMe, which has now raised at least $13,000.

The GoFundMe read: “This is not just a rally it is larger than life! I have rented a 40ft stage, jumbo-trons, and state of the art video and audio gear.”

“Don’t blame me. I didn’t vote for him,” Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotaki said at the Rally, according to The Post.

The rally comes as an increased number of homeless people have taken to NYC streets amid the coronavirus pandemic.

And more than 13,000 homeless people have been moved into NYC hotels after being taken out of shelters to stop the spread of COVID-19.

“They can’t stand Mayor Bill de Blasio’s policies on school openings, homelessness, crime, bail reform, small business and street-protest looters — but most of all, they can’t stand him.

Some 300 anti-de Blasio protesters, more than attended many of Hizzoner’s presidential campaign events, gathered in front of City Hall Park on Saturday to demand he either fix things or step down.

“And if you cannot do that,” organizer Scott Lobaido told the crowd, “we call on our Governor Cuomo because we know you can’t stand this man either.

“Rid us of this human waste of a mayor.”

The protesters carried signs reading, “Step Down de Blasio,” “Defund de Blasio” and “Hey, de Blasio — F–k Me? No, F–k You!””

“They shouted “Lock him up!” and “Impeach him now!” and blared Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”

“The mayoral candidate who often calls New York a “tale of two cities” has a personal tale of three names.

Most New Yorkers have come to know Bill de Blasio as the Democratic candidate with the affable family, including a teenage son who has been featured in campaign ads.

Left unsaid in the candidate’s official biography is that Bill de Blasio is his third legal name.

The man who could become the city’s 109th mayor was born Warren Wilhelm Jr. on May 8, 1961, in Manhattan, his birth certificate shows.

In 1983, fresh out of New York University, he petitioned a Manhattan judge to formally change his name to Warren de Blasio-Wilhelm, according to legal records.

And in December 2001 he petitioned a judge in Brooklyn to formally change his name again, this time to Bill de Blasio.

In recent years the candidate has, at times, talked about the evolution of his name, saying it reflected a personal journey that involved his parents’ divorce and an identification with his mother’s family, the de Blasios.

A Daily News examination of court records and other public documents provided new details of this evolution. However, the de Blasio campaign declined to answer a series of questions submitted by The News about the name changes. The News also contacted de Blasio’s older brother, Steven Wilhelm, 65, a journalist in Seattle, to ask about his sibling’s identities. “I need to check with the campaign,” Wilhelm said.”
