“Our whole way of life is being trashed. A way to stop a bully is to call the bully out. A lawsuit is a good way to call out a bully.”

“MIDDLETOWN — Ten Rhode Islanders have sued Gov. Gina Raimondo for requiring them to test for COVID-19, denying them “air of best quality” by requiring them to wear masks, and denying them freedom of assembly.

This resulted in them “not enjoying normal events canceled by fear of said virus.”

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court on Wednesday by Peter Chafee Card Jr., of Middletown, as the lead plaintiff. Three of the other plaintiffs — Mark Hamilton, Karl Berroth and Stacey Sanberg — all give the same address in Middletown. Card said he shares his house with them.

“There is so much fraud about this pandemic,” Card said Thursday. “If it spreads so easily, why do they have to stick a swab so far up your nose to find it?”

Card said he runs a business from his home but is also a lay minister for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“I could not go into an assisted-living location to minister to church members,” he said when illustrating ways his freedom has been curtailed.”
