A new Randomized Control Trial (RCT) in the Annals of Internal Medicine comparing medical masks to N95 respirators, has reaffirmed that masks are ineffective at preventing infection or transmission, regardless of quality. In addition to being functionally useless, the N95s proved to be more likely to result in adverse effects.
The trial was conducted on 1,009 healthcare workers from 29 different health care facilities from North America, Africa, and Asia. This is important because healthcare workers are more likely to use the mask properly.
According to the research, regardless of quality, masks are ineffective at preventing transmission or infection.
